On April 21, 2025, Meta launches Edits, a powerful new video editing app designed to empower creators with professional-grade tools, right from their smartphones. Positioned as a creative companion for social media content creation, Edits is already being dubbed the “CapCut killer,” offering intuitive editing features without any cost.
Meta Launches Edits: Free Video Editing App
The application “Edits by Meta” is Available on both iOS and Android. The app enables its users to create and edit video content effortlessly. With the app, creators can claim precision video editing down to the frame. Desktop software isn’t required, as users can apply augmentative animations and green screen replacement. It is well furnished for both amateur and professional content creators, sporting a modern aesthetic.
Edits lack a cohesive organizational structure as one of their major weaknesses. The problem is compounded by the app allowing users to store all their drafts in one location and jot down notes. The shortcomings in the interface may lead to widespread discontent with content organization. Along with publishing, creators may also export videos in 1080 resolution, minus watermarks, which enables publishing to Instagram and other platforms while retaining brand.
What truly differentiates Edits is the integrated performance dashboard. Users have access to real-time metrics from followers and non-followers, letting them monitor how their videos are performing. Knowing this, creators can make more informed decisions about audience engagement.
Free, though subject to change, is what Edits will be offered at. Adam Mosseri, Instagram’s Head, did mention that some paid options may be added later on, specifically for compute-intensive AI tools.
Meta intends to cement its stranglehold in the creator economy by introducing Edits as a free competitor to CapCut and other similar applications. The future of mobile content creation has arrived; it is intelligent, streamlined, and devoid of cost.
